## General and world drachma

  <Accordion title="What is the World Republic?">
    The World Republic is an open-source platform for global democracy. Verified citizens register political parties and vote in weekly test elections, the results are public, and the platform has its own currency, the world drachma.

  <Accordion title="What is WDD?">
    WDD (world drachma) is the World Republic's blockchain-based currency that turns our political vision into a self-sustaining economic system.

  <Accordion title="What gives WDD its value?">
    WDD is the currency of the World Republic: it is what party subsidies are paid in, and what you withdraw from your wallet. That is what it is for.

    It has no guaranteed value. No government, bank or reserve stands behind it. We do not undertake to buy WDD back from you, and we do not undertake to exchange WDD for money. Its value can move in either direction, and you can lose the entire value of your WDD. We do not offer WDD as a security, as an investment, or as a financial instrument, and we do not offer it as a way to make money.   <Accordion title="How can I earn WDD?">
    Register a party, and it earns [party subsidies](/building-blocks/party-subsidies) for the seats it wins. That is the one route today: the [Ambassador Program](/building-blocks/ambassador-program), which rewarded citizens for inviting party leaders, ends from Test election 33.

## Verification and voting

  <Accordion title="Do I need verification to participate?">
    **For voting and for registering a party.** Both require a verified account. You do not need verification to earn party subsidies on a party you already lead.

    Parties registered before this requirement keep their listing, their subsidies and their edit rights.

  <Accordion title="How does verification work?">
    Verification is a short face scan in your browser. It confirms that you are a real, live person and checks your face against accounts that are already verified. You need to be signed in, on a device with a camera facing you — the scan asks for no document, and there is nothing to install.

    You do it once per account. It lasts for as long as you keep using the platform: after three years with no activity on your account, your face data is destroyed and your verification is removed with it, and you can verify again with a new scan. If your face matches one that is already verified, the account is not approved — the comparison decides that itself, straight away — and you can ask in our [help community](https://t.me/worldrepubliccommunity) for a person to look at it.

## Elections and parties

  <Accordion title="What are test elections?">
    Test elections act as a proving ground for the World Republic. They serve two purposes: **stress-testing** our voting technology and **incubating** new political parties. While results are politically non-binding, parties earn real WDD subsidies to help them grow.

  <Accordion title="How do party subsidies work?">
    Each election's pool of WDD is divided into 2,025 seats. When voting closes, parties win seats by their share of the vote, using the Sainte-Laguë method, which favors neither large nor small parties, and each seat is worth an equal part of the pool. A party needs at least 1 vote in every 2,025 cast to win a seat — about 0.05% of the vote. [Why 2,025](/building-blocks/party-subsidies#why-2025-seats). The money goes to the citizen who registered the party, and it is released into their wallet gradually over the following year rather than all at once.

  <Accordion title="What happened to the Ambassador Program?">
    The Ambassador Program awarded an extra 10% of a party's subsidy, on top of it, to the citizen who had invited the party's leader. It is ending: from Test election 33, no new ambassador rewards are awarded. Rewards awarded before then are released into the wallets they were awarded to, on the same schedule as a subsidy.
